About the Artist
Hello
I'm a self-taught artist living on the beautiful Isle of Wight. I feel blessed to live here because the scenery is so stunning. Over the years many artists and poets have been inspired and have produced some of their greatest works. Dickens, Keats and Swinburne are amongst them.
The Isle of Wight has picturesque villages such as Shanklin and Godshill with their thatched cottages, and then the wild, unspoilt South Coast including Chale, Blackgang and Compton Bay. It truly is amazing and magical. One minute you can be in the midst of winding lanes and trees and then find yourself high up on the downs with stunning views across the island towards the sea.
There is so much beauty to be found in nature and each district has its own distinct flavour. I loved living in Sufolk because all around were quaint little villages with their pink cottages, and varied landscapes leading to the many beaches. Wild flowers always seemed to bloom in the meadows. The rugged coastlines of Northern Ireland provided much scope and inspirtion for my many seascapes when I was living there.
I mainly work in pastel, and also in acrylics on canvas. Sometimes I combine mediums to get a different effect. Mainly I paint landscapes and seascapes.
Any of my pastel paintings will need to be framed and put behind glass. As pastel is a medium which is powdery, I do fix each painting as I go along, but not overly so, as the spray does tend to dull the colours. Some paintings you will see here are framed, but others are supplied with a cream mount and a hardboard backing all ready for you to choose your own frame. I now leave that up to you as I have found some people prefer to choose their own.
My acrylic paintings on canvas are all painted along the sides as well, so are ideal for hanging without frames. They will look good within contemporary surroundings.
